Gears are everywhere. Here you can see one of the combat suits from the movie Avatar next to Núria Peris, or else Núria Peris next to a Gear, as you like it.
The suit was exhibited in the Panasonic stand at the IFA Consumer Electronic Fair that was held in Berlin last september.
Panasonic was exhibiting their future 3D television sets; we were able to see the trailer for the movie Avatar in a 3D TV screen, and I must say it is a really amazing technology.

Hi everyone,
This time, we have some very interesting images. You can really appreciate how much effort you must put when trying to create a sciencie fiction movie.
Below you can see some frames at the moment of shooting, and then the final result after being submitted to postproduction.
In the first frame we can see Teresa with her helmet. The people at Pixel in Motion (they are creating CGI effects for the teaser) integrated Teresa in the hangar bay with all the Gears, where we can see the recognizable school logo.
Then, the hallway frame shows us some details we didn’t know about the school.
Jorge, from the Bamf! Japan team, was working on a “high-tech screen” effect where Captain Tsing will appear. I wonder what did Teresa, Moira and Brian do to make Captain Tsing so angry…

Hi to everyone,
Step by step, we’re finding (and seeing) more details about the work made by Bamf! It seems they are now working in post production. The following image could be a frame showing Teresa in front of her Gear. I can only say one thing about her driver’s uniform: it is exactly as it appears in the comic-book. Also, I think the Gear looks terrific!
Hopefully, the people at Bamf will be kind and the wait for other customed characters will not be very long…

Future past

Forty years ago today, humans stepped foot on an astral body that was not Earth. Neil Armstrong,Michael Collins, Edwin A. “Buzz” Aldrin landed on the lunar surface and took a stroll. This event is still influencing the future since the number of technological advances that came about because of the Space Program are too many to enumerate. Scratch-resistant lenses, MRI tech, and micro lasers are just a few things we might not have today if it weren’t for the space race. It’s just one of the reasons that the Space Program should continue. The other, of course, is the awe it inspires in us. Can anyone really say they are unaffected by the monumental accomplishment that the Moon landing represents?
To celebrate this event, here’s a beautiful little video I found on youtube today. Ultra high-res photos of the Moon landing edited and set to music. Enjoy.

Yoshiyuki Tomino
Gear School is opening up new frontiers. Here you have Yoshiyuki Tomino with a copy of the comic in an event that took place some days ago in Tokyo. It is an honor for us to see one of the fathers of modern sci-fi/anime robots posing with our book.
Yoshiyuki Tomino (Odawara, 1941) is one of the top Japanese animation directors and writers. He started his career in 1963, in legendary Mushi Productions, the company of Osamu Tezuka, the “god of manga”. Some years later, he went on and worked for another of the most popular studios in the country, Sunrise.
In 1979, the concept of robots showed by Tomino in Mobile Suit Gundam lifted him to the elite of the industry, a place he’s been occupying for the last 30 years thanks to the many anime series set in the huge world of Gundam and also other creations such as Space Runaway Ideon, Heavy Metal L-Gaim or Brain Powerd.
In the seventies, the model of a super robot such as Mazinger Z prevailed in sci-fi anime. They were gigantic robots that had all kinds of powerful weapons and could withstand any attack from an enemy with just some scratches. However, when he conceived his Gundam, Tomino chose to make a more realistic robot, which could be destroyed by an external attack. In his world, everything the robot could do (such as flying) or use (such as weapons) could be explained by science. His idea captured the audience’s attention, and it’s been used countless times until today.
Tomino even gave a new turn to his concept in one of his latest creations, Overman King Gainer, where he made an enlightening parody of the genre, at the same time respecting the graveness and strength that any combat robot must have.

Hi to everyone,
Well, the moment has come to introduce you to the most important crew in the creation of the film: the production crew. It was their responsibility to have everything ready and in place. Without them, the film would have never materialized! ;P
In future installments, we will introduce you to the rest of the crew who worked in the film, including, of course, all the really indispensable people: cameramen, photographers, lightning technicians, props staff, make-up artists, hairdressers, carriers… but this will be all dealt with in the future.
In the picture, left to right, we can see:
Álex (Producer), Núria (artist), Laura (production), Paula (actress), Edu (production), Anna (actress), Peter (actor), Stalyn (production)
See you next week!

Hi everyone,
Slowly but steadily, the people at Bamf! are sending me some little jewels both from the shooting and production for the short film.
Sometimes, it is better to enjoy these pleasures in small amounts… so here you have a part of the final storyboard. This is the scene where Professor Tsing is about to reveal to the kids that he knows their secret.
Enjoy it… and see you next week!

Stalking the future

So it turns out that there’s an Army mechanic in Alaska who’s tired of waiting for the future and he’s decided to do something about it. Carlos Owens spent the last four years building a semi-functional piece of mech. The thing is 18-feet tall and weighs a ton. It also has a hydraulic system that allows the mech to match the movements of the individual in the driver’s seat. Check out the whole story at Popsci.com.
Mr Owens forsees applications for mech in the military. You think?
And Mr Owens isn’t the only one thinking about the future of the military. The Army has asked a panel of 14 neuroscientists to think about how their field might be brought bear on their soldiers. The result, a hypothetical set of armor tied into the soldiers’ nervous systems (among other applications). Check out newscientist.com for more.
All of this just means that the kind future imagined in Gear School and in countless SF films and novels, is approaching faster and faster.
Not fast enough.
